Day 3

THE CHARACTERISTICS OF A PERFECT STORM:
Mark 4:35-41 NIV
“That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
We pick it up in verse 35
Vs. 35 he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.”
I. His Word IS Sustaining You
Recall: He said let’s go over- this statement contains a promise and prophecy
PS 119:49 Remember your word to your servant, for you have given me hope.
PS 119:28 My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word.
PS 119:107 I have suffered much; preserve my life, O LORD, according to your word.
1 JN 2:24 See that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father.
Vs 35 Let us go over
The emphasis is on “us”
II. A Storm That He Takes Us In And Through
It is possible that God is leading us through the storm
Before God takes you TO He takes you THROUGH
There’s a big difference between the storm we go into & the ones that are “self-generated”
•Financial storm- we spend more than we make.. debt is a choice!
•Martial storm- confront challenges and issues – not each other
Last Characteristic Of A Perfect Storm…
Vs. 36 they took him along, just as he was,
III. Jesus Is With You
This here is the most important thought to take away from this passage and about storms – he is with us!
ISA 43:2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.
Matthew chapter 28: And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Romans 8:31 If God is for us, who can be against us?
My position in life is determined by my position in Christ
